New York Knicks vs. Los Angeles Lakers

The newly constructed Knicks travel to the Staples Center Thursday night to take on Kobe Bryant and the Lakers, New York is coming off a huge Christmas day win over the always dangerous Boston Celtic. There is not much love between these two teams, given the fact that the Lakers have beaten the Knicks every time since 2008, that is right, the Knicks have not beaten the Lakers at home or on the road in their last 6 meetings. Sunday night football: Bengals @ Jets

Bengls-jets

The last Sunday night football game for the regular season will be played at the Giants Stadium, New York, against the home team Jets and the Cincinnati Bengals. This game was scheduled at 1:00 eastern first but due to the fact that we are handling a very important game, the time was changed and now they are playing at 8:20pm eastern. The game will be national televised on NBC and we already have the lines available for this game and the rest of the matches.

Cincinnati Bengals just clinched their A.F.C North title after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 17-10 despite they barely won and didn’t play really good, besides, they were playing with a team that has only 3 wins in the whole season. They also won their fifth straight at home and earned 10 wins for the first time since 2005.

When Jim Caldwell took his starters out of the field in the 3rd quarter, Indianapolis was beating the New York Jets by 5 and they still were the only unbeated team in the season but right after that, the Jets took advantage of the situation and won the game 29-15 after scoring 19 unanswered points and playing on the road. They still got options to get thru the playoffs dance but they have to defeat Cincinnati in their last regular season game.

Bengals and Jets don’t see their faces so often. Since 2001 they have only played 4 times, 3 wins for the Jets and only one for the Bengals. The last time they played was on October the 12th, 2008 and New York won 26-14.

NBA Week 6th Picks: Portland at Boston

Things might be a bit calmer by then, though. Knicks general manager Donnie Walsh wants the Stephon Marbury affair cleared up by Monday, which means a measure of stability might return to the New York locker room for the game against Boston.
A year ago, Portland won a pair of overtime thrillers against the Knicks, whose roster has been overhauled since then. Under new coach Mike D’Antoni, the Knicks like to run, as evidenced by their 138-125 win over Golden State on Friday.

Preakness Stakes during the years

Preakness Stakes and the Triple Crown
One of the most famous American Grade I stakes is the so called “Preakness Stakes”. This is a short 1.91 km race for three-year-old thoroughbred horses. It is held every single year on the third Saturday of May. It takes place in Baltimor, Maryland at the Pimlico Race Course. Until the 1930s no one used the phrase “Triple Crown”, especially for this series of races.
Every year, the first Stakes of the Triple Crown is the so called “Kentucky Derby”. Although the Preakness Stakes is established 2 years earlier than the Kentucky Derby in the far 1873, nowadays it is taking place after it. This means that the Preakness Stakes is in the middle between the Derby and the so called “Belmont Stakes”- the third and last leg of the races.
The name “Preakness” comes from the far October 25 of 1870, when the former governor of Maryland Oden Bowie named the then 2.41 km (a mile and a half) race in honor of one colt from Preakness, Wayne Township, situated in New Jersey, which was coming from the Stables of Milton Holbrook Sanford. The reason was that this colt won the then famous day Pimlico Race Course Dinner Party Stakes.
Some horses, jockeys and events of the Preakness Stakes that remained in the history
One of the most famous jockeys in the world is John Chamberlain, owing his success to the 3-year-old horse “Survivor”. With its help, Chamberlain won a purse of $2,050, which then was a serious amount of money. The horse galloped the largest margin of victory until 2004.
In 1889, the Preakness was won for the first time by an African-American jockey. This jockey is still famous as Gorge “Spider” Anderson.
In 1890 the race took place in Bronx, New York at Morris Park Racecourse. Unfortunately, during the period of 1891-1894, there weren’t run any Preakness races. After 1894 and in a period of 15 year till 1908, the Preakness Stakes were taking place again in New York, but this time at Coney Island’s Gravesend Race Track.
Some Preakness Stakes interesting tips
According to the regulations, the geldings and colts are allowed to carry 57 kg (or 126 pounds), while the fillies are allowed to carry 55 kg (equal to 121 lb). The horses are strong, but they cannot wear more than the allowed.
If you have ever heard about the term “The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans”, then you would surely know that this is a symbol of the Preakness Stakes. That’s the way the most of the people call it. This is because of the “Rudbeckia hirta”- a flower, which is symbol of the Maryland state as well as a horseshoe of black-eyed susans. The relation of this plant to the contest is that it is always traditionally placed around the neck of the winner.
Being the second and shortest leg of the American thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes is always attracting the winner of Kentucky Derby, as well as some other horses that participated in it and occasionally horses that didn’t even grade to start it. This means that almost every professional is welcome to participate!

2008 Super Bowl: New England Patriots vs. New York Giants

football.jpg

The 2008 Super Bowl is here, and it pits the undefeated New England Patriots against the New York Giants, who finished the season, including the playoffs, winning ten road games in a row. Just like any big game, this game isn’t without its own personal storylines and questions. Below are some of the more important ones surrounding the big game:

Is Tom Brady’s foot really hurt?

There are many rumors surrounding the injury status of Brady’s foot, including one that says Brady is wearing a brace in an attempt to “psyche” out the Giants. I would think Brady’s success in big games would be enough to psyche out the Giants, but lets examine the injury a bit closer. In one picture posted on various news outlets he is seen wearing a soft cast over his sneaker. This actually caused the line to drop in Vegas. Later that day, Brady was seen a little more dressed up, including hard soled shoes, but minus the soft brace. It’s my guess that his foot will be just find for the Super Bowl, and he’s just wearing the cast during certain times of the day, when he isn’t enjoying a night on the town.

Will Randy Moss show up for the Super Bowl?

Randy Moss is averaging exactly one catch per playoff game. He has had to put up with some stingy defense the first two games in the playoffs. Also, for nearly the last half of the season, including the playoffs, the Patriots haven’t been blowing people out at the same rate. It’s my guess that Moss will show up. He’s been waiting his whole career for this spotlight. I feel Moss will show up the same way T.O. showed up for his first (and to this point, only) Super Bowl. Only difference is, I think the Patriots will win this one.

How are the Patriots such big favorites?

The final game of the season the Giants lost to the Patriots by only three points, in one of the most thrilling game of the years. However, they are listed as nearly 14 point underdogs to the Patriots. I actually agree with this. This game will be in Arizona, not on the Giants field, as was the previous meeting. This game has a lot more meaning then that game. The Patriots were 15-0 going for the undefeated season, but would you have considered them any less Super Bowl favorites if they lost that game? The Giants gained a lot of motivation in that game, but in the end it was still a loss. If the Giants go on to win the Super Bowl that game will be considered the most important loss in the history of the game.

What’s the better accomplishment: The Pats 18 and 0 or the Giants 10 game road winning streak?

While the Giants road success is very impressive, I don’t feel it compares to the Pats undefeated record. The Patriots won every game of the season, including those at home. The Giants had a poor home record, winning only two games. How does that equate to being a better statistic then the Patriots. The Giants have impressively won two games on the road during the playoffs, but they had to play on the road during the playoffs, while the Patriots earned their home field advantage by winning during the regular season. If the Giants beat the Patriots, where they are technically the road team, I will restate my position on the matter.
