Recently, I heard if Renaldo Balkman wasn’t playing more. First of all, I like Balkman a lot. He is a great defender, runs the court well, rebounds, and somehow, without a polished offensive game, seems to be able to score in a variety of ways. That said, there are only so many minutes to go around. “Bigs” Nene and Kenyon Martin have been solid as starters. Linas Kleiza and Chris Andersen have been playing well off the bench. So, Balkman sits and waits his for his chance. Coach George Karl did tell me a few weeks back that if Renaldo learned the small forward position better, he might be able to pick up some minutes there.
