The Celtics have been perceived as a potential suitor for two-time All-Star Stephon Marbury since the Knicks
point guard was banished from the team before the season.
As it turns out, Boston’s interest is very real — at least according to the player himself.
In a story in today’s New York Post, Marbury said he has received a verbal commitment that he could join the
Celtics should he eventually come to terms with the Knicks on a contract buyout.

There is much talk surrounding the Celtics about the potential acquisition of Stephon Marbury, but it’s a classic cart before the horse situation. Marbury is still a Knick, and he won’t be going anywhere unless he gets a buyout from that club.
The Celtics do have interest in the point guard, but, if he does get free, he will reportedly look for a team that will be given him the most minutes and a chance to win. In Boston, he would have to play behind Rajon Rondo.
