
Yao Ming does not expect this to happen often.
“It’s not every day you make 12 of 12,” he said.
The Rockets, however, do expect to be able to do good things around him with regularity, and they were headed in that direction even before Yao’s perfect shooting night.
Early in the season, they had been stumped by fronting defenses and sometimes by the sort of double- and triple-teams the Miami Heat sent to try to slow Yao.
“I think it still can be a problem,” Rockets coach Rick Adelman said. “It really depends on the team that’s doing it, how active are they, can they front him and get back to the other side real quick. We’re better at understanding what we have to do, that you can’t dwell on it. You only have 24 seconds; you have to move the ball.
