The California Golden Bears (4-0, 1-0 Pac-10) will travel to Oregon to meet the Ducks (4-0, 1-0 Pac-10) in a very intriguing early conference battle. Currently, the Ducks are a 4.5 favorite, but this game seems to be up in the air for anyone. The Golden Bears have looked sensational early, jumping out of the gate with a 45-31 win over Tennessee in the opening game of the season. The score in that one was a lot closer then the actual game. In the second game of the year and the first road game of the year they traveled to Colorado State and beat them 34-28. In their two games since then, both at home, they put up 42 and 45 points each in taking care of LA Tech and Arizona. Golden Bears quarterback Nathan Longshore has looked great early, completing 63.3 percent of his passes, with 5 TD’s and just two interceptions. Running back Justin Forsett has looked even better, averaging 5.7 yards per carry and scoring seven touchdowns. Also, Wide Receiver Lavelle Hawkings has already made 25 catches for two touchdowns this season.
However, Oregon hasn’t been a slouch themselves, and at home at Auzten stadium, where the stands literally rock, they are tough to beat. Oregon has already put up 50 points in two games this season, and those were their last two games. Much of that can be attributed to quarterback Dennis Dixon who has thrown for 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Also, running back Jonathan Stewart is averaging a wowing 7.7 yards per carry. Oregon hasn’t even been close to tested this year. Their closest victory was a 55-31 shellacking of Stanford in Stanford. They also manhandled Michigan 39-7 at the Big House, as the stadium is known at Michigan.
Both of these teams want to win to keep pace with Pac-10 front runner University of Southern California. They both get their chance at USC later in the year, but they first have to take care of business here. I expect a very exciting game, featuring great offenses on both sides of the ball. The only time the Golden Bears have remotely struggled this year was in the already mentioned Colorado State game. On that note I am picking Oregon by the slimmest of margins with the fact in mind that with both of these offenses the game could potentially end up one sided in either teams favor.
