The path of the Champs

Green Bay Packers (4-0) at Atlanta Falcons (2-2)
Sunday, October 9th. 8:20 pm ET

Reigning NFL Champions, the Green Bay Packers have shown this year how solid they are and try to establish a dynasty in the league around their top performer, Aaron Rodgers. Meanwhile, coming from one of the most competitive conferences in the league (NFC South), the Atlanta Falcons get to this game after defeating the Seattle Seahawks last week 31-27.

The Packers, have a 10 game winning streak including last year’s Superbowl, and performing in a way where repeating last year’s performance seem to be the next stage. Guided by Aaron Rodgers, who has thrown for 1325 yards with 12 touchdowns this league becoming one of the best quarterback around the league, wide receiver Greg Jennings has also had his part on the show, receiving 266 yards with 3 touchdowns in the 4 games we’ve seen this year, and last but not least, running back James Starks has rushed for 210 yards, averaging almost 5 yards per rush and helping heavily the team to establish a power ground attack.
The Falcons, had an unexpected difficult start this season, but they have been getting better as games go by, with Matt Ryan showing the league how much he has improved in his job, having 1135 passing yards and 6 touchdowns so far on the season, and Michael Turner has rushed for 304 yards and scored 3 touchdowns, but Ryan’s favorite weapon, tight end has performed better and better, having 21 receptions for 229 yards and 4 touchdowns, but don’t forget about rookie wide receiver Julio Jones who has shown Pro-Quality performances achieving 342 receiving yards with an average of 14.3 yards per catch and only missing to reach the end zone to complete his surprising debut season.
Between both teams the statistical gap is not as wide as some may think. Green Bay has averaged 429 total yards per game, allowing 406 (most of them through the air) and scoring 37 points per game and allowing their opponents to score 24.3. Atlanta has averaged 360 yards per game and allowing 372.8, scoring 22.5 per game and allowing 26.3 per game.
The spread in the game sets Green Bay as a 6 point favorite on the road, and I expect them to cover that one-touchdown spread and continue undefeated and reach back-to-back Superbowl appearances.
