The 15th NFL World Bowl is set to kick-off on June 23rd. This year’s final will pit The Frankfort Galaxy against the Hamburg Sea Devils.  The Sea Devils have won their last 4 games of the regular season and finished the season 7-3.  The Frankfurt Galaxy also finished the season 7-3 but will hold a decisive advantage because the championship will be held on their home field.

The two teams met twice during the regular season and each took one game in very exciting contests.  In week 3 of the season the Frankfurt Galaxy won 20-17 behind the arm of J.T. O’Sullivan on their home field.  .  Sullivan finished the game with 136 yards passing and 1 touchdown.  The two teams met again in week nine of the season and this time the Hamburg Sea Devils prevailed in a high scoring affair.  Despite four touchdown passes by O’Sullivan, the Sea Devils used a level offensive attach to walk away with the victory on their home field 36-31.  The winning play came on a spectacular 50-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Casey Bramlet to wide receiver Marcus Maxwell with just 48 seconds remaining in the game.  If the championship has a much drama as these games then the fans are in for a real treat.

Hamburg Sea Devil Key Players

Hamburg wide receiver Maxwell is a key player and finished the season tied for second in the league in touchdowns with 7, all on passes.  Quarterback Bramlett completed 133 of 220 passes for a 60.5 passing percentage, among the best in the league.  He has thrown for 1,810 yards and 15 touchdowns, with just five interceptions.  The five interceptions is the best among quarterbacks who played the majority of their teams games.  Running back Quinton Griffin has combined for 712 yards this season, the top on his team.  Also, it isn’t often that you consider a kicker to play a huge part in a game, but because these teams have played so close this season that it seems likely to comedown to a winning field goal attempt.  Sea Devils kicker Shane Andrus was second among kickers in the league with 60 points, five points behind Frankfort Galaxy kicker Rhys Lloyd.  Andrus only missed one extra point attempt this year, and only 3 of his 16 field goal attempts.

Frankfurt Galaxy Key Players

Quarterback Sullivan is easily among the tops in the league in statistics.  His 1,997 yards this season puts him over 400 yards away from his closest competition.  His 68.1 completion percentage is also tops in the league.  Also, his 15 touchdowns ties him with Bramlet for the best in the league.  Who’s catching all those passes you ask?  Wide Receiver Brandon Middleton is first in the league with 44 catches and second in yards with 532, just three yards behind the top spot.  Running back Sha-ron Edwards led the Galaxy with 237 yards rushing and 1 touchdown.  It is clear that this is a past first offense.  Kicker Lloyd, as mentioned, is top in the league in points, but also missed six of his 19 field goal attempts this year.  He would still be your choice though at the end of the game, because he already made a 56-yard field goal this year, which is nearly 10 yards farther than anyone else made this year in the league.

The Frankfurt Galaxy finished their regular season 5-0 at home and will obviously hold a distinct advantage in this game because of it.  Hamburg had a decent record on the road, at 3-2, and already showed that they can play Frankfurt tough anywhere.  The championships bring a different atmosphere to the fans and to the players and the Hamburg players will be so focused and excited to go when they take the field they will probably hardly notice that they are the unwanted guests.

It is no secret that the NFL Europe is a training ground for the NFL in America.  Each year a handful of players from Europe get their chance to compete with the best American Football players in American because of their success in Europe.  There is no better chance for a player to make an impact on a world level then in the biggest football game Europe has to offer.  Currently Frankfort is the favorite, for obvious reasons, but that doesn’t mean a player won’t come out of nowhere for the Sea Devils, and ruin the Galaxy’s championship party.
