The Hornets’ game against the Mavericks on Wednesday in Dallas is the first meeting between the Southwest Division rivals since the Hornets prevailed in a five-game first-round playoff series last April.

Things in the division look a lot like they did last year when those two teams, as well as the Spurs and the Rockets, emerged from the extremely competitive race to claim half of the Western Conference’s playoff berths.

The Hornets, who won the division last season based on a tiebreaker with the Spurs, are again neck and neck with San Antonio for the Southwest lead, with the Rockets and Mavericks in close pursuit.

The Cavs signed forward Jawad Williams to a 10-day contract on Monday.

The 6-9, 220-pounder has appeared in three games this season for the Cavs. In four total minutes, Williams scored two points and recorded a steal. He was waived by the Cavs on Jan. 7.

The Cavs’ roster now stands at 15.

“Hard work pays off,” Williams said. “That’s one of the reasons I’m here.”

When he was waived, he said he prayed for a chance to come back with the Cavs.

“(I wanted to) stay positive,” he said. “That’s all I can be.”

He said his role won’t change.

“I’ll do whatever they need me to do,” Williams said. “I’m the last man on the roster. I have to live with that.”

I think that The Cavs will make a good decision on their game strategy in order to stop the Hornets to win.
