There is much talk surrounding the Celtics about the potential acquisition of Stephon Marbury, but it’s a classic cart before the horse situation. Marbury is still a Knick, and he won’t be going anywhere unless he gets a buyout from that club.
The Celtics do have interest in the point guard, but, if he does get free, he will reportedly look for a team that will be given him the most minutes and a chance to win. In Boston, he would have to play behind Rajon Rondo.
“I know there was speculation about Sam being bought out and P.J. (Brown) was at home, and we needed them down the stretch,” Allen told reporters. “And Danny (Ainge) was the guy who made those decisions. Danny is the guy who has to make those decisions and he is very qualified to make them.
In a strange, convoluted kind of way, Zydrunas Ilgauskas’ ankle injury could be a blessing in disguise.
It will give the Cavs an opportunity to find out whether J.J. Hickson can handle the chore of performing under pressure.
The 6-foot-9, 242-pounder has been working hard after practice and he appears ready for prime-time action.
Hickson, the No. 19 pick in the 2008 draft, can score at the NBA level. The question is whether he can keep his focus on the defensive end.
“Every time I get in a game, it gives me an opportunity to get better,” Hickson said. “This league is all about confidence. Everyone can play.”
